Bible Verses About Friendship
I eventually realized, after reading these bible verses about friendship, that God expects us to be friendly. However, there are terms and conditions on which we choose our friends. Hence, it is of great importance that we know and understands what God has to say about friends and friendship. And with that in mind, here are 10 scriptures on friendship.
Proverbs 17:17 “A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
Bible verses about friendship: Love.
Love is selfless, love is kind, love is pure, and love, true love; is unconditional. When love is the cornerstone in friendships; it’s a sight to behold, and a reality worth dying for.
A loving friend will go the extra mile without adding a cost. Loving friends will put all that they have on the line to stand in the gap for their friends.
Someone once said that love is the essence of life, and I agree.
And Especially in friendships, love is the shelter that weathers any storm.
Love is the hope that keeps friends going, and love is the glue that keeps friendships together.
Without love, friendships are dreams without hope, and clouds without water.
Love has always stood the test of time, love is a substance that will never diminish. When all else fail; love stands tall. And even in hard times, love will stand taller. A good friend is a loving friend, and as such, embodies loving qualities.
Therefore, a good friend will love, and will continue to love in any situation, whether good or bad. Good friends don’t look for opportunities to excuse themselves in testing times. But rather, good friends will do whatever possible to express their love.
Philippians 2:3 “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.”
Bible verses about friendship: respect The bible has always placed a strong value on respect. Matter of fact, God himself said that he honors those who honor him. That is to say if there isn’t respect between friends; the friendship wouldn’t grow.
A good friend is one who will respect you at all time. A good friend will respect your independence even though they may not agree with your values.
This scripture is encouraging us to respect each other. And it appears to me that a friendship can grow without respect. Therefore, if you have friends that don’t respect you. Then now might be a good time to reconsider the direction of your friendship.
Colossians 3:13 “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”
Bible verses about friendship: forgiveness What water is to our bodies so is forgiveness to our souls. Forgiveness brings things to life. Forgiveness in many ways is the pathway to blessings, and this was evident in God’s work of redemption. We received God’s blessings after he forgave us of our sins.
Likewise, in a friendship, there is fulfillment when there is forgiveness. But friendships without forgiveness are cold, judgmental, revengeful, and spiteful.
So, if you have noticed any of these traits in your friendships. Try and talk to them, and see if they will listen to you.
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
Bible verses about friendships: support “Can two walk together, except they are agreed?” (Amos 3:3). Amos 3:3 makes it very clear that relationships cannot survive without agreement. And mutual agreements are based on support or at least the willingness to.
To add, friends who turn a blind eye when you are in desperate need of help aren’t worthy of your friendship. Don’t get me wrong, but the point I am trying to make is that good friend are supportive.
However, there may be instances where a friend is unable to meet a genuine need of yours. But if they at least try; it’s a good sign to continue with the friendship.
Proverbs 18:24 “There are ‘friends’ who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.”
Bible verses about friendships: reliable A true friend creates a bond greater than blood relations. And a true friend is always around us, especially when the chips are down, and we are lying flat on our face. The type of friends Psalms 18:24 is describing here; is a real friend.
And a real friend is a reliable friend. And a reliable friend is someone you can always count on.
In the same vein, a reliable friend is someone who will correct you when you are wrong.
1 Samuel 18:4 “Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, and even his sword, his bow, and his belt.”
Bible verses about friendships: willing to make sacrifices. Jonathan and David’s friendship is among the closest recorded in the bible. And if you read the 18th chapter of 1 Samuel. You will notice that sacrifice was a symbol of David and Jonathan’s friendship.
To go deeper into the story of David and Jonathan: Saul, Jonathan’s father wanted to kill David. But Jonathan wanted to save David from Saul’s execution. So, Jonathan devised an escape plan with David, and in so doing jeopardized his right to the king’s throne.
Also, Jonathan gave David his armor; and good thing he did. Because David had none and would’ve struggled to ward off imminent dangers.
As we can see, Jonathan was a real friend, and he sacrificed all he had to David. 1 Samuel 18:4 is a good friendship verse because it reminds us of the role that sacrifice plays in friendships.
Also, there will be times when we need to exercise patience with our friends. Because sometimes, it’s a case of our friends not knowing the importance of sacrifice. And what better way to tell a friend about sacrifice than sharing these scriptures with them.
In closing, a good friend is willing to sacrifice whatever they have to help you. And a sacrifice represents a commitment, and commitment is a sign of a strong friendship.
Proverbs 16:28 “A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends.”
Bible verses about friendship: loyal It’s never a good idea to gossip, especially where friendships are concerned. What poison is to our bodies, so is gossip to friendships.
Gossip is the absolute lowest point of any friendship. Gossips hurt, and even that is an understatement.
For a moment, imagine; someone you love and care for, someone you will go the extra mile for; secretly gossips you. That’s the lowest of lows, and a sure indictment against such friends. Proverbs 16:28 doesn’t mix words, it is clear in its message; gossips ruins friendships: even the best of them.
With that said, you should sit down and consider if any of your friends fall in the gossip category. And if so be the case, then remember what Proverbs 16:28 says. That is to say: “stay away from friends who gossip, otherwise you will be disappointed and hurt.
James 4:11 “Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it.”
Bible verses about friendship: nonjudgmental Brothers and sisters mention here in this verse are persons with close relations. And according to Proverbs 18:24, friends are considered on the same level as brothers and sister.
Therefore, this scripture about friendships applies to all friendships. To begin, this verse warns us about being judgmental. And a Judgmental friend is always critical about whatever you do, whether good or bad; it does not matter.
But a good friend is nonjudgmental. And James 1:19 agrees “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.”
Real friends; if they aren’t sure about something will first ask, then listen, and then speak. Good friends don’t rush to judge prematurely.
To sum up, if your friends are judgmental of you; talk to them and find out why. Sometimes, a little talk with a friend can make all the difference. But if your words fall on deaf ears; it’s a sure sign that you may need to say goodbye.
1 Corinthians 15:33 “Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character.”
Bible verses about friendship: inspirational I was told that eagles don’t feed with chickens, but with other eagles. And that chickens don’t eat with eagles, but with other chickens. What does this have to do with this verse? Well, “birds of one feather flock together; ” so to speak.
1 Corinthians 15:33 is asking us to take a good look at our friends and be honest with ourselves. And if we were, to be honest with ourselves we will agree that bad company is unhealthy to our moral values.
But, good friendships are those with persons who inspire you to aim higher. Good friends will push you to achieve your goals and follow your dreams. I dare you to take a good look at your friends, and see which side of the fence they fall.
10. Psalm 37:3 “Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.”
Bible verses about friendship: trustworthy The Bible called Abraham a friend of God. And we are the seed of Abraham; which in some way makes us friends of God. And being friends of God, Psalms 37:3 says that we ought to trust in God… our friend.
In the same vein we trust God; because he is our friend, the same way we must trust each other in our friendships. Mutual relations are based on some level of trust.
Hence the reason for trust in friendships. Friendships void of trust cannot grow, they are hopeless and dead. But, trust is the hope we have that our friends have our best interest at heart.
Moreover, when there is trust between friends; anything is possible. Trust is a building block in any good friendship.
And finally; trust is the pathway to confidence. And confidence is the virtue that makes the impossible possible.
I hope that these Scriptures about friendship will help to build stronger relationship
